Wig Care Tips

Tips and Tricks on how to maintain a flawless custom wig.
  • How To Wear
-When wearing wigs it is important to install or have them installed correctly, as for this will elongate the time of wear to avoid having to use excessive amounts of glue around the hairline. This causes breakage around both your hairline and your frontal/closure as well.
-When wearing your unit try to always sleep in a silk scarf or bonnet to protect your unit from breakage and tangling, this also helps your unit from shifting if you are wearing lace front adhesive to secure it.
-While wearing units try not to scratch the lace on your unit. If your scalp begins to itch consider patting your head instead, this helps to avoid bald spots occurring on your lace over time from scratching. If the itching is unbearable try removing the wig to wash both your hair and your unit as well.
-When brushing your bundles, always start from the ends of your extensions and work your way up them to detangle, this prevents large amounts of shedding.
    • How To Wash

-Wigs are wigs, they are not meant to last you a full month or two of wear without proper care. They should be cared for as if it was your own hair. Try washing or preferably co-washing (wash with conditioner) your unit at least every two weeks of wear. Co-washing is only feasible for units that have not accumulated too much product build-up, using this method to wash your unit does not strip the hair of its silkiness and it stores moisture. It is best to co wash using cool to cold water which helps to seal moisture into your extensions.

-After washing your extensions it is recommended that your bundles air dry or at least air dry 80% and blow dry 20%. This method causes less use of heat, which is better for your extensions.

    • How To Style

-Before putting any hot tools on your extensions, it is best that you first use a heat protectant serum. This prevents heat damage and it also makes for a great silky smooth wig after styling." A little goes a long way," using too much serum can cause stiffness at the end of the styling process which will cause you to have to wash your extensions again.

-This is not a crucial step but optional, spraying a small amount of holding spray into the palm of your hand and gently patting it throughout your hair can lay down fly-aways and can also cause curls to last longer in humidity. This can also be done by lightly spritzing holding spray onto your unit without the use of your hands.

    • How To Store Away
-If you are done wearing your unit and want to give your scalp a breeze, it is best to store your wig away in a neat fashion. It is recommended to buy a styrofoam mannequin head and place your unit upon it until you are ready to wear again.
-There are other alternatives to storing away your wigs; like using wig bags, which allow you to hang your unit up in a secluded space, a shoe rack, a coat hanger, etc.. Anything that can be used to hang your units, instead of throwing them in a bunch and causing them to tangle, is best.
